Who we are
Ovington was founded by Sam Ford after a 30 year career in Banking and Capital Markets, where he held varied senior client-facing and operational global roles. We mobilize small teams with deep industry expertise to get the job done.
Ovington undertakes a range of work from strategy through to implementation and change management, in traditional banking and capital markets, cryptocurrency and fintech. We are used to navigating effectively across businesses, functions and regions, and between organizations where required, to help clients make smart decisions, focus on priorities and execute effectively.
Sam Ford
Founder & Principal
Sam works with banking, markets, cryptocurrency and fintech clients in the US, UK and internationally. He specializes in situations with material impact on his clients' businesses. His experience includes strategy, new business opportunities, product and technology development, independent reviews, risk and controls, operational efficiency, restructuring and post-merger integration, capital optimization, regulatory change and program management.
Sam has 30 years of front-office, operational and consulting experience, in business head, COO, interim management and consulting roles, with broad international experience across multiple business areas, products, and client types. He has a track record in driving strategic change, re-engineering business processes, and successfully tackling new challenges, often with no “roadmap”. Over the course of his career, Sam has worked with clients and teams in over 20 countries.
Before setting up Ovington Consulting, from 2012-2017 Sam was Managing Director in the Chief Operating Office of the Investment Banking Division at Barclays, where he was a front office lead and Accountable Executive for a broad portfolio of change programs. These included: a Group Strategic Review leading to the creation of a non-core bank; Structural Reform legislation to legally separate and ring fence the UK Retail Bank; Capital Optimization; Client Strategy & Lifecycle; Brexit response; new regulation including MiFID II and MAR; and Client and Product Suitability. In this role, Sam led many cross-functional teams, operating in partnership with Markets, Corporate, Retail and Wealth Management businesses.
Previously Sam led a client-facing business spanning Barclays’ Corporate Bank and Investment Bank from 2007-2012, where he was responsible for cross-sales between the two businesses across FX, derivatives, capital markets, loans and transaction banking. In this role, he drove material improvements in client experience, productivity, capital efficiency, and compliance through re-engineering large parts of the business including governance, client coverage, business processes and technology, documentation and pricing algorithms.
Sam’s earlier experience at RBS includes Global Head of Banks, where he was responsible for client and counterparty relationships across all Banking and Markets products, and Global Head of Cross-Product Structuring, where he was responsible for building out capabilities in derivatives and structured products.
Sam holds a Masters degree in Engineering, Economics & Management from Oxford University.
